LLUM BCN is back, Barcelona’s brightest festival

Feb 4 2015 00:00:00

Once again this year, the LLUM BCN festival will light up Barcelona during the Santa Eulalia festivities.

On February 6, 7 and 8, light, along with gigantes y cabezudos (giants and bigheads), devils, dragons, eagles, lions, dance troupes and castellers (human towers) will invade the streets ofCiutat Vella.

The LLUM BCNfestival is a circuit of light installations where art, tradition and technology converge. They are produced by students and teachers from schools of design, lighting and architecture in Barcelona with the collaboration of renowned organizations and artists.

In this event, which will fill the monumental buildings, squares, corners and courtyards of the heart of Barcelona with light and life, LAMP wanted to make its small contribution, and it has done so by providing material for the light installation, "Tempus fugit", by students of the Architectural Lighting Design Master's courseat the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). In this installation, fifteen light pendulums orbit around a central pendulum like satellites. Each pendulum consists of a torch and a loudspeaker hanging from the ceiling. The installation plays with the height, colour and intensity of the light beams and the sound of the various groups of pendulums that are formed, while the overhead lighting subtly bathes the courtyard of the Sessa-LarrardPalace (C/ Ample, 28) creating the effect of a moonlit night.

LLUM BCN, which this year, 2015, coincides with the International Year of Light, is now in its fourth year and has established itself as a landmark event with its own personality, distinguished by its commitment to the artistic quality of the performances and installations and the opportunity for experimentation it gives to new talents.
