Architects, not Architecture. Barcelona Edition 01 Personalities behind the big names. Conversations without the myths.

Sep 4 2018

At Lamp, together with Hess, we are very happy to participate in the first edition of “Architects, not Architecture” in Barcelona, an event that will take place on 27th September at the Auditori del Conservatori del Liceu.

It is not uncommon to know the works of great architecture firms, but we rarely have the opportunity to meet the people behind them. It is precisely this, the personal and professional autobiography, trajectory, influences and significant experiences of renowned architects that attendees of the “Architects, not Architecture” event will be able to discover.

This event is coming to Barcelona for the first time after receiving such a popular response in Germany. “Architects, not Architecture” was born in 2015 from a simple and straightforward concept: speakers are not allowed to talk about their work. This year marks the start of its international expansion to Oslo, Copenhagen and Barcelona, after 15 editions in Germany’s major cities, 75 speakers and a total of 6,000 attendees.

In Barcelona, there will be three architects with extensive national and international experience who will put their work to one side, in spite of their widespread international recognition, to talk about what has been behind their success:

Architect Benedetta Tagliabue is the director of the EMBT studio, founded in Barcelona in 1994 together with Enric Miralles. Tagliabue is probably one of the best-known contemporary architects in existence. She has a well-established career, characterised by the balance between a fragmented, turbulent aesthetic and respect for tradition.

Architect and thinker Andrés Jaque, has been exploring the role of architecture in the construction of societies ever since he founded “Office for Political Innovation” in 2003. Jaque puts forth a reactive architecture, capable of merging differences and bringing modern day conflicts to light.

Sir Peter Cook is an architect, lecturer and writer. He is one of the founders of the group and movement Archigram as well as its public representative. His architectural exploration is part of the relationship between cities and new information technologies, movement and perception. He is a Royal Academician (2004) and was knighted by the Queen of England (2007) for his services to architecture and education. He is also Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic.

In this edition, three architects with very different backgrounds will share the stage on 27th September at 7:00 p.m., at the Auditori del Conservatori del Liceu in Barcelona.

We look forward to seeing you! ;)
